Biography

Born in London on August 22nd, 1995 to Albanian parents, Dua Lipa began her music career posting videos of herself performing on YouTube. Unlike so many others who try to start the same way, her talent was noticed and she signed a recording deal with Warner, releasing her debut single “New Love” shortly thereafter. Its follow-up, “Be the One,” performed extremely well in the charts, reaching number 1 in several European countries and number 9 in the UK. She went on tour in 2016 to promote her music and was named one of the BBC's Sounds of 2016. Singles “Last Dance” and “Hotter Than Hell” were released in 2016, with the latter reaching number 15 in the UK. She collaborated with Sean Paul on “No Lie” and later with Martin Garrix on “Scared to Be Lonely.” In 2017, she released her self-titled debut album, which spawned the UK chart-topping hit “New Rules,” an empowering number about moving on from a former flame that enjoyed heavy rotation on the club circuit. The following year, Dua Lipa picked up two BRIT Awards, collaborated with Calvin Harris on the chart-topping single “One Kiss” and K-pop group Blackpink on “Kiss and Make Up,” and reissued her first LP with a selection of bonus tracks. In 2019, she bagged two Grammy awards and began teasing her sophomore album, sharing the disco-leaning lead single “Don’t Start Now,” which reached number 2 in both the US and the UK. After adopting a retro fitness video aesthetic for her next single, “Physical,” she returned in March 2020 with the album, entitled Future Nostalgia, which included production from Kanye West collaborator Jeff Bhasker, synthpop star SG Lewis, and burgeoning hip-hop producer Take a Daytrip. Climbing to the top spot on the UK Albums Chart, it spawned another US Top 10 hit in “Levitating,” and was followed at the end of the year by a remix album curated by house DJ The Blessed Madonna which featured contributions from Missy Elliott, Gwen Stefani, and Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard. Rap sensation DaBaby jumped on a remix of “Levitating” shortly thereafter, and Dua Lipa teamed up with Miley Cyrus for the duet “Prisoner” before reemerging in February 2021 with the new single “We’re Good”, taken from a deluxe Moonlight Edition of Future Nostalgia. Following her participation in the 2023 Barbie soundtrack with the song "Dance the Night," Dua Lipa began teasing her third studio album through the Top 10 singles "Houdini," "Training Season," and "Illusion," all three produced by Danny L Harle and Tame Impala's Kevin Parker. Moving away from the disco revival of Future Nostalgia, the psychedelic-tinged Radical Optimism saw the light in 2024.
