Djoloff was a Senegalese hip-hop group named after the historical Jolof Empire. The band consisted of Mbégane Ndour, Aumar Sow, and Doudou Seck, who formed in Paris in 1995 after relocating from Senegal. Djoloff began as a rap group, practicing conscious rap in Wolof, Fulfulde, French, and English, accompanied by traditional African instruments like the balafon, kora, and ngoni. Their debut album, Lawane, was recorded from 1998 and released in 2000 with contributions from Wasis Diop. The group performed at several notable festivals, including Francofolies of La Rochelle and Les Transmusicales in Rennes. Following the release of Lawane, Djoloff embarked on a European tour, including stops in Germany during the Popkomm event. After their disbandment, Sow pursued a solo career.
