Biography
Dino & Sembello, an American musical duo from Philadelphia, consisted of Ralph F. Palladino (known as Ralph Dino), born in April 1938, and John Anthony Sembello, born on February 22, 1945. The duo first recorded together in 1970, releasing the single "See the Light" on the Date label. In 1974, they released their self-titled album Dino & Sembello on A&M Records, which was produced by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The album included the notable song "The Best Thing", which became a minor R&B hit for Billy Eckstine in 1976. Another track from the album, "Pearl's a Singer", became a hit when covered by Elkie Brooks in 1977. Both "Pearl's a Singer" and the track "Neighborhood" were featured in the musical revue Smokey Joe's Cafe. John Anthony Sembello died in May 2013 at the age of 68.
