Die Grenzgänger is a German folk band founded in 1989 by Michael Zachcial and Klaus Levin in Bremen. They blend traditional German folk music with elements including swing, jazz, blues, reggae, rap, and oriental rhythms. Their debut album, Die Schiffe nach Amerika â Emigrantenlieder (1995), received the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, an award they won six times (1995, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2014, and 2017). Notable releases include Knüppel aus dem Sack â Hoffmann von Fallersleben (2002) and Maikäfer Flieg! â Verschollene Lieder 1914â1918 (2014). They collaborated with artists such as Frank Baier and Cynthia Nickschas and represented the Goethe-Institut in various European countries. Other albums include Dunkel wars der Mond schien helle â Lieder der Kinder (2012) and Und weil der Mensch ein Mensch ist (2015).
