Biography

Dionisius Prasetyo, known professionally as Didi Kempot, was born on December 31, 1966, in Surakarta, Indonesia. He was a singer and songwriter in the campursari style who began his music career as a street busker between 1984 and 1986 before moving to Jakarta. His breakthrough came with the comedic song "We Cen Yu", which gained popularity in Jakarta. In 1989, he released the single "Cidro", though it did not immediately succeed in Indonesia. Didi Kempot's career took off internationally when "Cidro" became a hit in the Netherlands and Suriname, leading to multiple tours in these countries in 1993. In the late 1990s, he achieved significant success in Indonesia with albums such as Stasiun Balapan (1999) and subsequent releases like Modal Dengkul, Tanjung Mas Ninggal Janji, and Plong. His popularity waned briefly but resurged in the 2010s. Didi Kempot passed away on May 5, 2020.
