Biography

Der Eisbär is a German–Swiss music project formed in early 2007 by producers Mike Pyczak of Berlin and PJ Wassermann of Switzerland; the duo collaborated through an online distribution venture for independent musicians. The project emerged from the media frenzy surrounding the Berliner Zoo’s infant polar bear Knut, with Pyczak writing a text that inspired Wassermann to compose a simple children’s melody within half an hour. The single "Knut ist gut" was recorded at Hypermusic Studios in Hersberg, released in March 2007, and immediately entered the German charts, providing a portion of the proceeds to the zoo. Since its launch, Der Eisbär has remained a niche act focused on family‑friendly releases, with no subsequent albums or major chart entries recorded beyond the initial single.
