Biography

Although the Dutch accordion trio De Electonica's released a string of singles between 1967 and 1983, they are regarded in their homeland as one hit wonders on the back of their 1980 hit single 'De Vogeltjesdans' which reached number eight in the Dutch Top 40. The group began life as a light music ensemble based in the De Kroon cafe in their home town of St. Willebrord and was comprised of three accordionists Bert van Gageldonk, Jules Ketelaars and Marijn Heeren. After signing a deal with Phonogram in 1967 they released their debut single 'Electonica Polka' and continued to release records throughout the 1970s. Being an accordion trio meant their audience appeal was always going to be limited and the group remained on the periphery of popular music in the Netherlands until the release of 'De Vogeltjesdans'. For a short period they became a household name but success was short-lived and the 1983 single 'De Poesjesdans' was to become their final recording.
