David Gooden, known professionally as Dave Angel, was born on 13â¯Mayâ¯1966 in Chelsea, London, England, and worked as a DJ and electronic music producer. His early exposure to jazz through his father and to soul, funk, and techno in Londonâs club scene led him to experiment with a borrowed electronic keyboard and a doubleâtape deck, producing the Nightmare mix that reached number 23 on the UK Singles Chart in 1990. After this breakthrough, Angel released his debut EP New Orchestrations in 1993 and followed with Tales Of The Unexpected in 1996, establishing his presence in the techno circuit. He expanded his output with Globetrotting (1997), "This Is Disco" (1997), and Classics (1996), while the Ghost Train EP in 2009 showcased his continued relevance. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he collaborated with artists such as Fabio, Grooverider, and Darren Emerson, and performed at major international festivals, solidifying his role in the global techno community. His work received recognition for its blend of jazz, Detroit techno, and breakbeat hardcore elements, and his releases on labels including R&S Records and Rotation Records contributed to the evolution of electronic music during his active years.
