Biography

Davóne Tines, born December 20, 1986 in Portsmouth, Virginia, is an American operatic bass-baritone. Raised in Orlean, Virginia, Tines sang with the First Providence Baptist Church choir and attended Fauquier High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in sociology at Harvard University before studying voice at Juilliard School. Tines gained international attention starring opposite Philippe Jaroussky in the Dutch National Opera premiere of Kaija Saariaho’s Only the Sound Remains. He originated leading roles in world premieres including Matthew Aucoin's Crossing, John Adams' Girls of the Golden West, and Terence Blanchard's Fire Shut Up in My Bones. Tines received the 2018 Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award, was named a 2019 Time Next Generation Leader, and received a Sphinx Medal of Excellence in 2020.
