Biography

Daniell Revenaugh was an American classical pianist and conductor born on May 30, 1934, in Louisville, Kentucky. He performed his debut at age 14 with the Louisville Orchestra playing Ludwig van Beethoven's “First Piano Concerto”. Revenaugh studied with Egon Petri from 1951 until 1962 and graduated from Florida State University in 1959, where he studied under Ernst von Dohnányi. He also studied at Mills College with Darius Milhaud. In 1967, he conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for a recording of Ferruccio Busoni's “Busoni Piano Concerto” featuring pianist John Ogdon, which received a Grammy Award nomination. Revenaugh became the first General Director of the Institute For Advanced Music Study in 1973. He founded the Busoni Society and patented a lower lid for grand pianos. In 2009, he released the premiere recording of Carlisle Floyd's Piano Sonata. Revenaugh died on March 12, 2021.
