René Moses Swain, known professionally as Da Germ, was born in 1969 in Odenwald, Germany, and is a German Rapper. Raised in Frankfurt by a German mother and an American father, Swain grew up facing discrimination as an Afro-German. At 18, he made his debut as a rapper but was booed off stage. In 1988, after a stint in the USA, Swain worked with Sven Väth on the project Mosaic under the name Zyon and released his first hip-hop record under the name Al Rakhun. Returning to Frankfurt from 1993 to 1996, he released the Spirit of Attitude (1993) EP and the album Day of Resurraction (1994). In 1996, Swain moved to New York and released "More and More" with Shadow Records. Despite efforts to establish himself in the USA, he returned to Germany in 2001, settling in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
