Biography

Culture Spears, a Tswana traditional music group based in Botswana, formed in 1991. They gained significant traction with their second album Kulenyane, which sold over 60,000 units within three months and won several awards. Produced by Johane Maseko at his House of the Rising Sound in Bulawayo, this album marked a breakthrough for Culture Spears. The group continued to release albums such as Khudu and Kuweletsana, with notable songs including "Kulenyane" and "Khudu". They performed at prominent events both within and outside Botswana, including an invitation by South African President Thabo Mbeki in 2008. Culture Spears was awarded the Presidential Award of Merit and founded Kulenyane Studios, named after their second album.
