Biography

The Cuarteto Casals has won prestigious international prizes since the start of its career in 1997, and is now one of the world's leading string quartets - an unprecedented phenomenon for a Spanish group, which has earned it the honors of the country and the royal family. The musicians are also committed to promoting Spanish music, as on their discs Arriaga String Quartets (2002) and Influencias (2005), as well as premiering works by contemporary Spanish composers. While Metamorphosis (2010) turns to modern Hungarian lands, their discography includes some of the repertoire's essential masterpieces, such as string quartets by Ravel, Debussy, Zemlinsky and Brahms, and Schubert's monumental and ultimate String Quartet. In 2014, Mozart: String Quartets Dedicated to Joseph Haydn was added to the list of Cuarteto Casals successes.
