Craft Spells, an American indie rock and dream pop group from Stockton, California, was formed in late 2009 by Justin Vallesteros. The project began with Vallesteros experimenting with simple synthesizer and guitar chords, gradually layering them to create the distinctive sound of Craft Spells. In early 2011, after signing with Captured Tracks, the band released their debut album Idle Labor, which was described as a soft, synthetic, and dreamy compilation of new wave and '80s pop music. The album featured Vallesteros' vocals, often compared to those of Ian Curtis. Craft Spells followed up with the EP Gallery in 2012 and their second LP Nausea in 2014.
