Biography

Christian Benda, a conductor, composer, and cellist, is descended from the eighteenth-century Benda family of composers. His recordings include classical standards such as Mozart, Rossini, and Schubert overtures, notably performances of Boccherini cello sonatas with his brother on fortepiano for the Naxos label. In 2013, Benda recorded Rossini: Complete Overtures in a four-volume cycle with the Prague Sinfonia Orchestra for Naxos Records. He has also recorded works by his ancestors, including Georg Anton (JiÅÃ AntonÃn) Benda and FrantiÅ¡ek Benda. He has also been the chief conductor and artistic director of the Prague Sinfonia.
