Carl Weinrich, born July 2, 1904, in Paterson, New Jersey, was an American organist who began studying the instrument at age six. He received degrees from New York University and the Curtis Institute of Music. Weinrich's career advanced when he replaced Lynnwood Farnam as the organist at the Church of the Holy Communion in New York following Farnamâs death in 1930. He later served as organist, choir master, and music director at Princeton University Chapel from 1943 to 1973. Weinrich was known for his performances and recordings of Bach's organ works, including Weinrich Plays Organ Music of Bach (1956) and Bach Organ Music (1962). He also premiered notable contemporary pieces such as Samuel Barberâs "Prelude and Fugue in B Minor" and Louis Vierneâs Symphony for Organ No. 6 in B Minor. Weinrich passed away on May 31, 1991, after battling Parkinson's disease for several years.
