The Calder Quartet, a string quartet based in Los Angeles, California, was founded in 1998 at the University of Southern California by violinist Benjamin Jacobson, violist Jonathan Moerschel, and cellist Eric Byers. The group took its name from American sculptor Alexander Calder. Their early training included studies at the Colburn School with Ronald Leonard and advanced chamber music studies at the Juilliard School. In 2014, the quartet was awarded a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant by Lincoln Center for their potential. They have performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Barbican Centre, and collaborated with artists like Joshua Bell and Philip Glass.
