Calan, a traditional Welsh music group formed in 2006, originated from Cardiff, Swansea, and Cwmbran. The band was founded by Huw Williams when its members were between 13 and 22 years old. Calan gained international attention at the Inter Celtic Festival in 2008, becoming the first Welsh band to win the competition. Their debut album Blwyddyn was released in 2008, followed by Bleddyn (2012), Dinas (2015), and Solomon (2017). The latter is a collection of songs based on Celtic Wales folklore, sung in both English and Welsh. Calan's contemporary approach to traditional music has led them to perform at major festivals such as the Cambridge Folk Festival, Glasgow's Celtic Connections, and Shrewsbury Folk Festival, as well as tours across Europe and North America.
