Biography

Getting his break as a contestant on the Spanish reality show 'Operacion Triunfo' in 2001, David Bustamante went on to become a charismatic Latin pop charmer often compared to Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias. Born in Cantabria, Northern Spain, he was a natural showman as a teenager and sang at parties and in karaoke competitions before entering the TV talent contest on a whim. He finished in third place overall, but the show's huge ratings propelled his 2002 debut album 'Bustamante' to number one with sales of over 750,000 and set the young starlet up as one of the country's most successful artists. He worked with Grammy-winning producer Emilio Estefan on follow-up 'Asi Soy Yo' in 2003 and his fame grew when he recorded the theme song to popular Mexican soap opera 'Gitanas'. The run of chart-topping albums continued with 2005's 'Carcius Al Alma', 'Pentimento' in 2006 and 'Al Filo De La Irrealidad' in 2007 and his mix of flamenco, salsa and cumbia styles with mainstream pop ballads spread his appeal right across South America. For his ninth album, 'Amor De Los Dos', he performed duets with Mexican singers Alejandro Fernandez, Edith Marquez and Alicia Villarreal.
