Brian Harnetty, born May 10, 1973, is an American interdisciplinary artist, composer, musician, and writer. Harnetty earned degrees from The Ohio State University and the Royal Academy of Music, and received a PhD from Ohio University in 2014. Harnettyâs compositions focus on sound archives and regional issues in Appalachia and the Midwest. Harnetty released the debut album Desire and Winter Birds in 2006, followed by American Winter (2007) and Silent City (2009), featuring vocalist Will Oldham. Harnettyâs discography includes The Star-Faced One: From the Sun Ra/El Saturn Archives (2013) and Shawnee, Ohio (2019), both recognized as Mojo Underground Album of the Year. Recent works include the albums Words and Silences (2022) and The Workbench (2023). Harnetty serves as a lecturer at The Ohio State University and contributes to publications such as NewMusicBox.
