Born in Brussels of Belgian-Rwandan descent, Boa Joo showed a keen interest in music from an early age. At the age of five, she declared that she wanted to become an artist and make a career out of it. Time went by and her desires became reality. Discovered on social networks through a freestyle posted on the Instagram account 1minute2rap, the young artist took advantage of the opportunity to continue her momentum and presented her budding public with a first EP, Sérénade, on June 3, 2022. The productions, notably by Corbeo, Glodi West or Deuxtroissept, hint at trap and drill sounds, and fit in with the influences of Boa Joo, from veteran Booba to Laylow or Guy2bezbar. His flow and the placement of his toplines are worked and pushed. Above all, it's her social positioning that sets her apart. Her pseudonym, Boa Joo, is an explicit reference to the One Piece manga and the character of the Amazon empress Boa Hancock. At the heart of a rap scene where women remain under-represented, despite a slight evolution, Boa Joo hopes to become a source of inspiration and motivation for future young artists. Her music also responds to her other references, Little Simz or Shay, and gives voice to the rapper's feelings and perceptions, giving a new feminist face to the French rap landscape.
