Biography

Clarence Henry Reid, known by his stage name Blowfly, was born on February 14, 1939, in Cochran, Georgia. A pioneering figure in music, he was celebrated for his unique blend of parody, comedy, R&B, soul, funk, and hip hop genres. Blowfly's career, spanning from 1960 until his death on January 17, 2016, was marked by over 25 parody albums such as The Weird World of Blowfly (1973) and Blowfly's Punk Rock Party (2006), alongside three albums under his birth name. His explicit lyrics and stage persona, which included performing in outrageous costumes, earned him both fame and controversy. Despite his influence, especially in the development of gangsta rap, he faced legal challenges and financial struggles, particularly with copyright issues concerning his compositions.
