Hailing from Annecy in the Haute-Savoie region of France, BlackRain has been one of the leading lights of French glam metal since its inception in 2002. Formed by Swan Hellion (vocals, guitar) and Matthieu de la Roche alias Matthew H (bass), they made a name for themselves with concerts across France, Europe and Japan, before signing their eponymous debut album to the Thundering label in 2006. Drawing his look and sound from the hard rock and heavy metal of the 1980s, BlackRain recorded his second album Licence to Thrill (2008) in Sweden, released on Manitou Music before being reissued by Listenable Records. He then signed with international label SPV for the release of Lethal Dose Of... (2011), then took part in the 2012 TV show La France a un incroyable talent, where he finished in 4th place. In 2013, the fourth album It Begins, produced by Jack Douglas, was released by Columbia, while its successor, Released (2016), saw the light of day on the German label UDR Music. In 2019, the year Dying Breed was released, BlackRain played Hellfest for the first time, then reunited in 2022 for Untamed. Several musician changes affected the band, who hired drummer Franky Costanza from Dagoba and guitarist Jerem G for the following album Hot Rock Time Machine (2024), followed in 2026 by Orphans of the Light.
