Billie Jo Spears, born Billie Jean Moore on 14 January 1937 in Beaumont, Texas, was an American country music singer. She began her musical journey at age 13 with her first recording on the Abbott label. In 1968, after moving to Nashville and changing her professional name to Billie Jo Spears, she secured a deal with Capitol Records. Her breakthrough came with "Mr. Walker, It's All Over" in 1969, which reached number five on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. She achieved her biggest success with "Blanket on the Ground" in 1975, topping the American country chart and becoming a commercial pop hit internationally. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, she released numerous top ten and top 20 country songs, including "What I've Got in Mind", "Misty Blue", and "'57 Chevrolet". She continued to tour extensively, particularly in the UK, and recorded albums with various labels. She passed away on 14 December 2011, at age 73, due to cancer.
