Biography

Yamir Enrique Chartuni Castro, known professionally as Big Yamo, was born on September 10, 1983, in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. He is a singer and producer who began his musical journey at a young age, initially composing songs before moving into production and eventually singing. At the age of 17, Chartuni Castro formed the group Ragga Son Life with Mario Mena, releasing their first single "Dime lo que tu quieres" in local radio stations and Medellín. Following the disbandment of Las Doncellas in 2006, Chartuni Castro launched his solo career under the name DJ Yamo, with notable tracks including "Como viviré" and "Entre ayer y hoy". In 2007, he released the hit single "Tocarte toa", which gained international popularity. A mashup of this song with Calle 13's "Hormiga Brava" further boosted his fame across Latin America. That same year, Chartuni Castro changed his stage name to Big Yamo and released his debut album Haciendo música sin sabe pa’ Kien. In 2011, the single "Entre la playa, ella y yo", featuring Vato18K, became a summer hit in Spain. Big Yamo continued to release albums such as Solo Éxitos (2013), and Champeta y Algo Más (2016). His 2017 single "La Batea" was a popular track in Cartagena.
