Biography
Big Black Delta is a solo project by Mellowdrone vocalist/bassist Jonathan Bates. He initiated his solo project in 2010 after growing frustrated with band logistics. With help from Alessandro Cortini of Nine Inch Nails, Bates discovered laptop production and developed a new sound. He released the EP BBDEP1 in 2010, followed by the single "He's a Whore" featuring War Widow. In 2013, he released his debut album Big Black Delta, which included tracks from an early-release limited-edition record titled BBDLP1. The album was positively received and inspired by film soundtracks such as Blade Runner and Solaris. He released several albums, including Trágame Tierra (2016), WHORU812 (2017), and 4 (2020). Notable collaborations include work with War Widow, Alessandro Cortini, Susanne Sundfør, and Morgan Kibby. Big Black Delta supported Gary Numan, M83, and Jane's Addiction on their respective tours.
