Stationed in Germany in 1985, he began to dabble in rap music, landing a record deal and releasing his debut single, “Rap to the World,” in 1990. He came to prominence in 1991 with the release of his second single, “The Beat is Hot,” which hit number 1 on Billboard’s Dance Singles chart and on Canada’s Dance Singles chart. The single also reached the Top 30 in New Zealand and Germany. He also scored a hit on the Canadian and US Dance Singles chart with “Take Control of the Party.” His debut album, The Power of Rhythm (1991) also included the singles “Give Me the Music” and the title track.
