Biography

Born in Mount Ephraim, New Jersey, songwriter Ben Vaughn grew up in Collingswood, then in California, where his parents settled. Attracted to rock'n'roll, he began by playing drums before opting for the guitar. In 1983, he formed the Ben Vaughn Combo, which produced two albums and made a name for itself on stage, before going solo in 1988. After a dozen solo recordings, including Mono (1993) and Rambler 65 (1994), his reputation grew thanks to two collaborative albums, Kings of Saturday Night with Kim Fowley in 1995 and Cubist Blues with Alan Vega and Alex Chilton in 1996. His rock'n'roll revival style then evolved into garage rock and punk blues with these personalities. He resumed his solo career with A Date with Ben Vaughn (1999) and Glasgow Time (2002), then took a detour into easy listening with Design in Music in 2006. He then turned to Americana with Texas Road Trip (2014) and The World of Ben Vaughn (2022).
