Biography

Beau Jocque, born Andrus Espre on November 1, 1953, in Duralde, Louisiana, was an American zydeco musician and songwriter. After a work-related accident in 1987 left him temporarily paralyzed, he began playing his father's button accordion as part of his therapy. In 1991, Beau Jocque formed the Zydeco Hi-Rollers with his wife Shelly on rubboard, quickly gaining popularity by incorporating rock guitar solos and blues-rock beats into zydeco music. His first recording, My Name is Beau Jocque, was released in 1992. In 1993, he signed to Rounder Records and released Beau Jocque Boogie, which included his signature song "Give Him Cornbread". The album became the highest-selling zydeco album ever. Beau Jocque passed away on September 10, 1999.
