Biography

Ayşe Mine is an award-winning Turkish pop musician and actress. She was born as "Ayşe Akyüz" in Istanbul, Turkey, on January 30, 1961. Mentored by fellow Turkish musician Radife Erten, she became a talented singer at a young age and released Demek Ki Öyle, her debut album, in 1977. Mine was just 16 years old at the time, and the album's title track became her first hit single. Nicknamed "The Quilter's Daughter" by the Turkish media, she released follow-up records like 1978's Sevdik De Ne Oldu / Mum and 1979's Hopşirinini while still a teenager. Her albums became less influenced by pop music as the 1970s gave way to the 1980s, with the grown-up Mine updating her sound to focus on Arabesque music instead. This evolution proved to be successful with records like 1983's Erkek Milleti, which won a Gold Long Play Award, and Suskunum, which became one of the best-selling Turkish albums of 1988 thanks in part to the popular single "Gözlerin Doğuyor Gecelerime." Erkek Milleti also became the title of Mine's first film, which was released during the late-1980s and co-starred Murat Soydan. Her acting career continued during the mid-1990s with the TV show Mutlugiller, which aired in 1994 and starred Mine in the lead role. She continued releasing music, too, with highlights including 1996's Yalancı / Ağla Gönül and 2000's Utan.
