August Enna, born August Emil Enna on May 13, 1859, in Nakskov, Denmark, was a composer. He began his musical journey as a violinist and pianist, receiving training from Christian Schiørring and Peter Rasmussen. In 1884, he composed his first opera, Agleia, followed by his first symphony in C minor in 1886, which garnered the attention of Niels Gade. Enna's breakthrough came with the premiere of his opera The Witch in 1892. He achieved significant success with operas such as Cleopatra (1894) and The Little Match Girl (1897). His works were performed across Europe, including Berlin, Hamburg, and Cologne. Enna's compositions include two symphonies, a violin concerto that premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York, and various orchestral pieces and songs. Despite his success, Enna faced financial struggles later in life. He died on August 3, 1939, in Frederiksberg, Denmark.
