Art vs. Science, an Australian electronic dance band based in Sydney, was formed in February 2008 by James Finn on vocals and keyboards; Daniel McNamee on vocals, guitars, and keyboards; and Daniel Williams on drums and vocals. The trio initially gained recognition after attending a Daft Punk concert, which inspired them to form the band. Their early breakthrough came with the release of their self-titled EP in May 2009, which peaked at number 32 on the ARIA Singles Chart and was accredited gold record status by ARIA.
Art vs. Science's career saw significant milestones, including three nominations at the ARIA Music Awards of 2010 for their extended play release Magic Fountain. In 2011, they won an ARIA Award for Best Independent Release for their debut album The Experiment, which peaked at number 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The band's international recognition grew with the inclusion of "Parlez Vous Francais?" on BBC 1 DJ Kissy Sell Out's cover-mount compilation and airplay on John Kennedy's XFM show. They toured the United Kingdom in support of La Roux and Groove Armada, and their track "Hollywood" appeared on the soundtrack of the basketball video game NBA 2K11. In early 2014, Art vs. Science released a single entitled "Create/Destroy" and participated in an experimental collaboration project called "Open Studio," resulting in the song "I Was a Child Once".
