Annerose Schmidt, born on October 5, 1936, in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, was a German pianist and university professor. She began her musical journey at age five under her father's tutelage and gave her first piano concert at nine. Schmidt earned her concert diploma in 1948 and studied at the Leipzig Music Conservatory. Her career took off with wins at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1955 and the International Robert Schumann Competition in Berlin in 1956. These victories launched her international career, leading to extensive concert tours. She recorded extensively for labels such as Eurodisc, Columbia, and Eterna, including all of Mozart's piano concertos with the Dresden Philharmonic under Kurt Masur. She received numerous accolades, including the National Prize of the DDR in 1964 and the Béla Bartók Prize in 1985. Schmidt became a professor at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin in 1987. Schmidt passed away on March 10, 2022.
