Biography

André Dussollier, born on 17 February 1946 in Annecy, France, is a French actor. He earned a literature degree at the University of Grenoble, acting in university theatre and making his first stage appearance at age ten. At 23, he moved to Paris to pursue acting, winning first prize at the Conservatoire national d’art dramatique alongside Francis Perrin. In 1972, he became a pensionnaire at the Comédie‑Française but left a few years later to focus on film and television. That same year, he made his film debut in François Truffaut’s Ein schönes Mädchen wie ich (Une belle fille comme moi). Notable films include collaborations with Nouvelle Vague directors Jacques Rivette, Éric Rohmer, Claude Chabrol, and a long partnership with Alain Resnais. Dussollier won César Awards as Best Actor for Ein Herz im Winter (Un cœur en hiver) in 1993 and Das Leben ist ein Chanson (On connaît la chanson) in 1998, and as Best Supporting Actor in 2000 for Ein Sommer auf dem Lande (Les enfants du marais) and in 2001 for Die Offizierskammer (La Chambre des officiers). He is married and has two children, Léo (born 1988) and Giulia (born 1993), who are also actors.
