Biography

Born in Cardiff on September 15, 1975, Amanda Whiting is a Welsh harpist specializing in jazz, renowned for her distinctive style blending classical tradition, modal influences and contemporary groove. Trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, she began her career in the classical field before turning to jazz, attracted by the freedom of improvisation and expressiveness of the genre. She is particularly influenced by Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane, two pioneering figures of the jazz harp, to whom she often pays tribute in her compositions. Signed to Jazzman Records, she has released several albums acclaimed for their harmonic finesse and immersive atmosphere, including After Dark (2021), Lost in Abstraction (2022) and The Liminality of Her (2023). Active on the British and international scene, Amanda Whiting also takes part in collaborations with other jazz, neo-soul and electro artists, and contributes to renewing the image of the harp in contemporary music. In 2024, she released her fourth personal album, A Christmas Cwtch, followed by the EP Can You See Me Now?
