Biography
Alice Giles, born May 9, 1961 in Adelaide, Australia, is a classical harpist. She studied under Lydia Shaxson and June Loney at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and won first prize at the Israel International Harp Contest in 1982. Alice Giles performed internationally in venues like London's Wigmore Hall and New York's Merkin Hall, collaborating with orchestras including the Israeli Philharmonic and Australian symphony orchestras. She taught at the Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt from 1990 to 1998 and led the harp department at the Australian National University until 2012. Notable performances include a concert in Antarctica in 2011, documented in the DVD "Alice in Antarctica". Alice Giles was appointed Member of the Order of Australia in 2017. Her discography includes Christmas Music for Harp (2020).
