Biography

Alexandre Astier was born in Lyon on June 16, 1974, and is an actor, director and composer best known for the Kaamelott TV series and films. After taking drama classes and studying at the American School of Modern Music in Paris, he embarked on a career as an actor, screenwriter and composer. In 2001, he directed the short film Dies Irae, which won the Audience Award at the Off-Courts festival and served as the basis for the successful TV series Kaamelott, a humorous satire based on the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Alongside this program, which ran daily for six seasons from 2005 to 2010, Alexandre Astier appeared in the feature films Comme t'y es belle!, Astérix et Obélix aux Jeux Olympiques, Coluche, l'histoire d'un mec (2008) and LOL (2009), then directed the film David et Madame Hansen (2012), for which he composed the music. In the same year, he staged Que ma joie demeure, inspired by the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach, followed in 2014 by L'exoconférence. He then went on to direct two films in the Asterix franchise: Le Domaine des dieux (2014) and Le Secret de la potion magique (2018), which won a César for best animated film. In 2020, he adapted Kaamelott for the cinema, composing the soundtrack and releasing it on the Deutsche Grammophon label. Five years later, a second cinema version is released, while the album reaches number 14 on the SNEP chart.
