Biography
Werner Haas, born on March 3, 1931 in Stuttgart, Germany, was a pianist known for his interpretations of Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. He began piano lessons at age four under his father's tutelage and later studied at the Stuttgart State University of Music and Performing Arts. In 1958, following a performance in Paris, Werner Haas signed an exclusive contract with Philips France, which led to recordings of the complete piano works of Debussy and Ravel. His international career included performances across Europe until his death on October 11, 1976, in a car accident in France. Haas received the Grand Prix National du Disque in 1962 for his complete recordings of Debussy's piano works and the Edison Award in 1970 for Ravel's complete piano works.
