Biography

Alcazar, a Swedish nu-disco group formed in Stockholm in 1998, consisted of Andreas Lundstedt, Tess Merkel, and Annika "Annikafiore" Kjærgaard. The trio gained initial success with their first single "Shine On" before achieving international recognition with "Crying at the Discoteque" (2000), which charted in multiple countries, including the US, Brazil, Australia, Japan, and many European countries. This breakthrough led to the release of their debut album Casino (2000), produced by Alexander Bard and Anders Hansson. The group's subsequent albums included Alcazarized (2003) and Disco Defenders (2009). Notable singles from these albums include "This Is the World We Live In" and "Physical". Alcazar participated in Melodifestivalen, Sweden's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, five times. Their song "Not a Sinner, Nor a Saint" (2003) was their first number one single in Sweden. The group went their separate ways in August 2011, but reunited briefly in 2013-releasing several new singles, such as "In the Name of Love" (2018)-and again for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 as an interval act.
