Biography

Akcent, a Romanian dance pop act, was formed in 1999. The group initially consisted of Adrian Sînǎ and his partner Ramona Barta, who released their debut album Senzatzia. In 2000, the lineup expanded to include Marius Nedelcu, Mihai Gruia, and Sorin Brotnei, solidifying the quartet known internationally. Their breakthrough came with the release of "Ţi-am promis" from the album În culori, which gained significant recognition in Romania. In 2006, Akcent released their debut English-language album, French Kiss with Kylie, featuring the hit singles "Kylie" and "Jokero". The latter competed in the Eurovision Song Contest representing Romania. Their success continued with collaborations such as a fragment of Madonna's chorus in "King of Disco". In 2008, Marius Nedelcu left the band to pursue a solo career, and Corneliu Ulici briefly joined as his replacement. Akcent's subsequent albums included Fără lacrimi (2009), which featured hits like "Stay with Me" and "That's My Name". These songs achieved notable success in Eastern Europe, Turkey, and Israel. Throughout their career, Akcent released several albums and singles that topped charts in various countries, including Romania, Spain, Poland, and Russia. Their impact on the dance pop genre remains significant, marked by their chart-topping hits and international collaborations.
