Biography
AgustÃn Magaldi Coviello was an Argentine musician, composer, and tango singer born on December 1, 1898, in Casilda, Argentina. The son of Italian immigrants Carlo MarÃa Magaldi and Carmen Coviello, Magaldi began his career in Buenos Aires in 1923, performing in cafés and forming a duo with Rosita Quiroga under the RCA VÃctor label. In 1925, he formed the duo Magaldi-Noda with Pedro Noda. They recorded for Victor and the CompañÃa Brunswick. Their notable classic tango songs include "El penado catorce" and "Acquaforte". Magaldi collaborated as a chorister in special albums with orchestras such as Donato-Zerrillo, TÃpica Brunswick, Ricardo Brignolo, and Osvaldo Fresedo. He appeared in the 1934 film Monte Criollo. His solo career was inaugurated in 1936 after the duo disbanded on December 31, 1935. Magaldi passed away on September 8, 1938, following a liver surgery intervention that produced a biliary complication. Notable posthumous releases include La voz sentimental de Buenos Aires (1976) and Tango Collection: 19 grandes éxitos (2011).
