Biography

Aggro Berlin is an influential German hip-hop label founded in Berlin on January 1, 2001 by Eric "Specter" Remberg, Jens "Spaiche" Ihlenfeldt and Halil Efe. The label specializes in gangsta rap and battle rap and significantly shapes the German hip-hop scene of the 2000s. Among the best-known artists signed to Aggro Berlin are Sido, B-Tight, Bushido, Fler, Tony D, G-Hot and Kitty Kat. The label is known for its aggressive lyrics and controversial releases. Aggro Berlin has released several successful samplers, including the Aggro Ansage series. The sampler Aggro Ansage No. 3 (2003) sells around 60,000 copies and marks the label's commercial breakthrough. Other successful albums are Sidos Maske (2004), which reaches number 3 in the German charts and is awarded gold, and Flers Neue Deutsche Welle (2005), which reaches number 5 in the charts. The label's last release was Fler's album Flersguterjunge in 2009. On April 1, 2009, Aggro Berlin ceased its active label work and terminated the contracts with its artists. Although Aggro Berlin is no longer active as a label, its influence on the German hip-hop scene can still be felt today. The label played a key role in establishing German gangsta rap in the mainstream and inspiring a new generation of rappers.
