After One was a German dance music project active in the early 1990s, consisting of members Abi Lin (Abraham Lin), Norbert Kreuzer, and S-AUO-N (Martin Gödtke). The group emerged during a time when electronic music and rap were gaining significant traction in Europe. Their debut single "Tom's Diner Rap", released in 1990, marked their breakthrough moment. This track was a cover version of Suzanne Vega's hit "Tomâs Diner" but featured rapped verses instead of the original sung lyrics. The adaptation reached Number 20 in the German Singlecharts, capitalising on the popularity of DNA's earlier remix of the same song. Following this success, After One released their second single "Real Sadness II (The Happiness Rap)", which also charted within the top 20 in Germany. This track was a cover of Enigma's hit "Sadeness (Part I)", similarly adapted with rap elements. The group's approach of integrating rap into dance music hits proved effective, demonstrating their ability to blend genres and create catchy, commercially viable tracks. Despite these achievements, After One did not release any further material after 1990. Their impact was largely confined to the German market, as they remained commercially unsuccessful internationally. The group's brief but notable career highlighted the evolving landscape of electronic music in the early 1990s, showcasing how cover versions and genre-blending could lead to chart success.
