A Light in the Dark is a Russian depressive black metal founded in 2012 by Bogdan "B.M." Makarow, a metal musician from Podolsk. The project began with the release of two EPs and studio albums within its first two years, all self-financed and independently released. In 2015, A Light in the Dark released a self-titled compilation featuring tracks from previous releases. The following year saw the digital release of Vanished via Spirits of the Air Records, with a CD version by Depressive Illusions Records. Notable collaborations include a split release with four other projects and an album titled A Long Way Home (2017), which featured a limited vinyl edition through Viridian Flame Records. In 2018, A Light in the Dark participated in the split-CD Colors of the Mind via Pest Productions. The group signed with Flowing Downward, a subsidiary of Avantgarde Music, for their 2020 album Insomnia.
